Ham Soup

So, it’s a bit late, but better late than never.

I finally made some soup! Making soup is one of my goals for 2008. I’m more likely to eat my veggies in the form of soup, and it seems to be pretty filling. Plus, soup is a good way to use up things in your fridge before they go bad. In other words, it’s a thrifty way to use up the produce. Also, soup freezes well.

Anyway, I made some ham soup. The first thing that people tend to say when you mention that you made ham, is “When are you making soup?”. It’s a weird thing. So, after some investigation, I figured out that the ham bone is some prized ingredient, and you better use it to make soup, or to flavor beans or veggies or something. Otherwise, it’s some sort of crime.

My ham soup had parsnips, turnips, carrots, corn, black beans and onions. It turned out pretty good. I think I like a creamier soup better. Not sure on the clear ham soup.

So, that’s my cooking update for the week.
